Threatened Species Day - Sat 7th September

National Threatened Species Day occurs every year on September 7th and marks the day the last Tasmanian tiger (Thylacine) died in captivity.

Join us on Threatened Species Day for a talk by zoologist Rob Hemsworth, President of Project Numbat, about the conservation of Western Australia's unique mammal emblem.

Numbats are under threat from habitat loss and introduced predators like foxes and feral cats. With an estimated population of approximately 2000 individuals, they need our help.

Project Numbat promotes community awareness of the numbat and is involved in numbat conservation by assisting the Numbat Recovery Program. This includes habitat management, population monitoring, feral predator control, education and awareness programs and fundraising for numbat conservation. Any donations to Project Numbat gratefully accepted at the talk and there will be Numbat merchandise available to purchase. There will be some activities for children who accompany adults attending the talk.

Date: Saturday 7 September

Dr. Jane Goodall Meets Project Numbat

Members of the Project Numbat Committee were honoured to be invited to meet Dr. Jane Goodall at Perth Zoo this week at the start of her Australian tour ‘Reasons for Hope’. Dr. Jane was at the Zoo to met with members of the Roots & Shoots Australia program, her global initiative to empower young people to conserve wildlife, the environment and people.

Project Numbat recently received funding from the Roots and Shoots program to continue to develop our numbat conservation program and provide school incursions across the southwest.

President Rob presented Dr. Jane with a numbat card and pin as a token of our thanks for all that she has done and continues to do.

Dr. Jane went on to meet a numbat in a private behind-the-scenes tour of Perth Zoo's Native Species Breeding Program and as you can see, she is as captivated with numbats as we are!
